Bishop Jerome Listecki of La Crosse Warns Against The Golden Compass

Dear Pastor,

My responsibility as a Bishop is the inform you as well and the faithful as to any movies, activities or entertainments that question or undermine the belief of our people and subvert the message of salvation which you as pastors deliver to your communities.

On December 7, 2007, the movie The Golden Compass will be in theaters. The trailers on TV make it look like one of C. S.  Lewis' stories from the "Narnia Chronicles." The problem is that The Golden Compass comes from a trilogy entitled His Dark Materials that tries to do the opposite of what C. S. Lewis was trying to do….

    Let us thank God that La Crosse has gotten a fitting successor to Abp Burke (big shoes to fill) in Bishop Listecki.

     

    He addresses this issue head on and so does his Office of Catechesis.

    The review on the official sight of the USCCB paints the film as a harmless piece of fluff. This good bishop says it is a danger to our faith…. that is quite a wide division of opinion…. This Bishop, like his predecessor, cares about saving souls. The USCCB is more concerned with being popular with the cultural elites.

     

    It is time to issue the call:

    BREAK UP THE USCCB!

     

    The USCCB serves no useful purpose and actually has no official legal role iin the hierarchy. When I was a parish employee, I reported to the pastor, the pastor reported to the bishop, the bishop reported to the Pope and the Pope reported to God. Now that is a divine chain of command. The Bishop's conference has no place in that chain

    BREAK EM UP!

    I think the reviewers should be fired.  Any future reviews should be submitted for approval by the USCCB.

    Mary Yvonne, with all due respect, the problem with the reviewer is not that he or she is out of step with the USCCB but that he or she is very much in step with them.

     

    Break em up! The USCCB serves no useful purpose and attempts to stifle faithful bishops from speaking out.  Ask Bruskewitz, Burke, Vasa and the other faithful bishops.

    Mary Yvonne…it was not the reviewer that was the problem…it was the USCCB itself!  They BACKED the reviewer and stood by his review??!!! Research it and you'll find out that's true.
