Setting Priorities

Today I was thinking of the saying "Tell me how you spend your money, and I'll tell you what you value." I think the same can be said for the way we spend our time. We find the time to do what matters to us. Only you can decide what your priorities are and where your time needs to be spent. If how you spend your time isn't in line with your values or how you want to live your life, it is a sign that a realignment needs to take place.

Keep track for a week how you spend the daily gift of time that God has given you. You may be surprised at the little blocks of time you have available for doing something you care about, or you may decide that some activities can be reduced or completely deleted from your schedule. Make time for the things that matter to you!

My husband said something similar the other day – "Tell me how you eat your cake and I'll tell you how you manage your time." Do you eat the icing first? Then you probably tend to do all the things you like best first, then slog through the rest of the day, perhaps uninspired. Tend to eat the cake first and save the icing til last? Then you tend to focus on duty and save the fun stuff for later.

Apparently, it is the ability to et that icing last which makes for a better more productive day – the icing motivating us to eat the rest quickly… It's called the power of delayed gratification.
