Experts Link New Study on Aggressive Sexual Behavior to Pornography Usage

The pervasive use of pornography in western society appears to be the cause of 6 of 10 men polled indicating they would rape a woman if there was no chance of getting caught. This is according to a recent study by the Journal of Research in Personality, a report that experts are linking to the consumption of pornography.

The study showed that 60% of men polled would rape or force a woman to do something she didn't want to do if they were sure they could do so with impunity. Mary Anne Layden, co-director of the Sexual Trauma and Psychopathology Program at the University of Pennsylvania's Center for Cognitive Therapy, said there is a correlation between viewing porn and aggressive sexual behavior among individuals. The results of the study reflect attitudes and behavior that she attributes to prolonged exposure to pornography.

"These messages lead to permission-giving beliefs," she said, "for violence, sexual entitlement, that I should be able to have sex whenever I want, however I want, wherever I want, with whomever I want."

Layden also said that people who use pornography start to think sex is a form of recreation and that sex isn't about intimacy, love, or respect.

"What this statistic shows is that men will go from just consuming pornography on a regular basis to acting out," said Patrick Trueman, special counsel for the Alliance Defense Fund, a legal alliance defending the right to hear and speak the truth.

In an interview concerning pornography in March, Trueman was critical of the government's failure to stop pornography, especially on the internet.

"The U.S. Department of Justice has all the tools it needs to stop U.S. commercial pornographers, who are responsible for most Internet pornography, from operating illegally on the Internet, but those tools are just not being used," he said.

The pornography industry took in more than $13 billion last year, and provides millions of the internet's websites.

In 2004, Senator Sam Brownback called for more research to uncover the destructive effect of pornography addiction following a U.S. Senate hearing discussing the dangers of pornography addiction.  During that hearing, Layden said pornography addiction has similar effects on the brain as heroin or crack cocaine addiction.

This is absolutely true.  Pornography, even the "non-violent" variety, socializes men to see women as objects, making them much more likely to abuse women.  And it is highly addictive.

Pornography and its close relative "nudity in movies" is truly "painting" a perverse picture of how men should treat women.  And in some cases how women are treating men.  And then we have the reality shows.  I know they are making the networks millions of dollars and they offer prize money to the contestants.  But it is not the shows like survivor I'm speaking about.  It is those that MTV and VH1 have on.  They may not be rated 'X' but they sure very suggestive.  And can someone explain to me why it is acceptable to refer to a woman as a 'Ho' or 'bitch'?

And it is this acceptance of this type behavior that gives it credibility to a generation of people that are easily and heavily influences by what is on TV.

Here is what I have told both my son's (ages 20 and 16) on how they are to treat and interact with young ladies.

"Treat them the same way you would want someone to treat your mother."

Thank you LifeSiteNews.com for this article.  Readers:  How about sending this article and others like it to your congressmen to see if they will finally do something about it.  There are so many victims that need to come to terms with the reality of what they do to themselves and others, and get the help they so very much need… especially for their salvation.

Most polling is unreliable and done by deviant progressive organizations to get their desired result. The legitimacy of this particular one is in doubt, though I agree things will get much worse if good people do nothing safeguard our children.

The first step is to require identification and a minimum age to access any websites displaying nudes.

The most important question is, what pressure can we apply to our legislators that is more potent than the campaign contributions of pornographers?

I really don't know how much it will take.  Our best bet is to do all we can, and pray.

And, of men who upon finding a woman with whom the sex was ‘casual for him’ and ‘maternal for her’, just up and decides to abort Baby by killing the tragic young new Mom – how many have developed their coarse and cruel corruption in goodly part from pornograhy – and, just because it is ‘there’ and ‘all right’? And, women thus degraded and demeaned are devalued and even dehumanized.

And, zephyr, how will giving this – filth – any permission not continue to degrade, etc., women – say – your Mom, or sister(s), or beloved mate, or daughter(s)?

And, does anything about this article flag its authors as operating in deviancy and to agenda? Their findings are of a piece with other studies.

Not long ago there lived a prophet who said:

"Not much experience is needed in order to know human weakness, and to understand that men-especially the young, who are so vulnerable on this point-have need of encouragement to be faithful to the moral law, so that they must not be offered some easy means of eluding its observance. It is also to be feared that the man, growing used to the employment of anticonceptive practices, may finally lose respect for the woman and, no longer caring for her physical and psychological equilibrium, may come to the point of considering her as a mere instrument of selfish enjoyment, and no longer as his respected and beloved companion."

Go back and read Humanae Vitae and you'll see that the results of this study are right in line with Pope Paul VI's predictions for a world where the unitive and procreative aspects of sexuality were seperated.

Let us ask for his intercession for our troubled world and rededicate ourselves to teaching those around us the beauty of the Church's teachings on marriage and family.

    hausmutti,

Just because it is rather plain as the nose on any face, it is still a ‘confessional’ momemt to have it right from the horses’ mouths.

Umm – just to mix the metaphors, you see . . .

Hmm. People who view aggressive and deviant sexual behavior are more likely to exhibit aggressive and deviant sexual behavior. Astonishing.

"Another recent study showed that over 90% of corn seed planted grew into — wait for it — corn plants!"

Okay. Just kidding, I made that one up.  But the law of sowing and reaping was mentioned by our Lord. We can't plant corn and expect to harvest tomatoes.

Yet we continue to study these things and to be astonished.

Yea, do we sow the wind, and reap the whirlwind.

Not only in pornography do we find ourselves mired, fixated, in today’s sins as the sole means of not catapulting headlong down the slippery slope.

God did not mean to have our pilgrimages finding us soiling ourselves. We see these things – we are not astonished only because we are not any longer surprised at our foolishness. How sad that is for all of us.
