Disney/ABC Needs to Rein Rosie in

On Thursday's edition of the ABC show, The View, the discussion turned to the Supreme Court's ruling yesterday affirming the partial-birth abortion ban. In an angry tone, Rosie O'Donnell asked, "You know what concerns me? How many of the Supreme Court judges are Catholic, Barbara?" Walters responded, "Five." O'Donnell: "Five. Five are Catholic. Separation of church and state, America." Walters then said that when the Catholic justices were vetted, they said they would not vote in a particular way because of their religion. But she then said, "It is interesting they're Catholic." After others spoke, Walters said she thought the justices were able to separate their faith from everyday life. To which O'Donnell replied, "From your everyday life but not hopefully from the foundation of our government. Separation of church and state."

Catholic League president Bill Donohue addressed this issue today:

"This is O'Donnell's eighth attack on Catholics since September. She has said there is no difference between radical Christians and radical Muslims (9-12-06); she has ridiculed the Eucharist (9-28-06); she has falsely claimed that the pope was in charge of policing miscreant priests since the 1980s and did nothing about them (10-2-06); she repeated the lie about the pope again (10-27-06); she has mocked priestly celibacy (2-7-07); she ridiculed the Eucharist again (2-27-07); she mocked Catholic teaching on the Bible and the Virgin Birth (3-26-07); and now she is complaining about too many Catholics on the high court.

"On December 8, 2006, O'Donnell apologized for offending the Chinese after Chinese-American groups protested the way she ridiculed them the week before. On January 18, 2007, ABC said of Grey's Anatomy star Isaiah Washington's anti-gay slur, ‘We take this situation very seriously, and his actions are unacceptable and are being addressed.'

"Accordingly, we are asking Anne Sweeney, Co-Chair Disney Media Networks and President, Disney-ABC Television Group, to demand that O'Donnell apologize to Catholics and that O'Donnell be treated with as much seriousness as was shown Washington."

So if the Catholic justices are supposed to separate their voting choices, I guess that means that they should vote for murder to be legalized, because anti-murder is a Catholic sentiment.  Rose is ridiculous!

Rosie O"Donnell is an obnoxious, ignorant loudmouth.  I don't watch The View, and I refuse to take seriously anything she's reported to have said.  She's just doing it for the publicity, and the Catholic League is wasting its time to try to rein her in.  She thrives on this sort of garbage, because she knows that it will get Mr. Donohue's goat.  And nobody can get your goat, if you don't have a goat to get!  If O'Donnell keeps this up, she'll give overbearing obnoxious women everywhere a bad name.  She should be crowned Queen of the Bloviators (I love that word – thank you, Mark Shea).    BTW, The Catholic League needs a dictionary — Spell Check didn't work in that headline.  They should be doubly careful:  next thing you know, O'Donnell might pronounce that Catholics can't even spell!

Well Rosie, although you typically do not want to be confused by the FACTS, here they are nonetheless:

    RELIGIOUS AFFILIATION/JUSTICES/% on COURT/% in U.S. POPULATION

Christian/Kennedy, Scalia, Souter, Alito, Thomas, Roberts, Stevens/78%/76.5%

    Jewish/Breyer & Ginsberg/22%/1.5%.

So really what Rosie is spewing out this time is a desire for an expansion of the already misunderstood and misapplied doctrine of "separation of church and state," to "separation of CATHOLICS and state."  So Bill Donohue is more than justified in calling for action by Disney/ABC against her immediately.  Or, Disney/ABC (and the rest of the media world), is there a double-standard when it comes to Catholic bashing?

But people, Rosie is Rosie and most thinking people can see through her act.  My bigger concern is for the souls of Justices Souter and Stevens.  How can they possibly consider themselves "Christian," (you know, a follower of God the Son Jesus Christ), and still oppose a ban against such a gruesome procedure inflicted against a fellow human being who was created by God?

I called the number and they asked me to write them with my concern, not even bothering to listen.  The address they gave is:

I've never heard of it; what is "The View" anyway?  I don't watch television, so I apologize for my ignorance.  Is it a sitcom or a videomagazine show or a morning news show? Is is live, scripted or taped? Are there really people out there who take it to be serious commentary? Perhaps Mr. Donahue is making a mountain out of a mole hill.  But if this is some kind of a popular show or might be taken seriously, then he is right to generate an organized fuss.

Please remember to pray for Rosie O'Donnell.  She is a child of God just like those being aborted.  Pray for God's goodness in her to grow!  I've already sent my letter to Anne and prayed for her too 🙂 Thanks for the address!

    God loves you .

‘The View’ – the hen party without the Tupperware (to date my own ‘view’ of things.) I have nothing against hen parties – I used to help my late wife to so market Tupperware – they are usually above bachelor parties (which I find abhorrent) as parties go. A sort of loose ’roundtable’, ‘The View’ is a fine example of coastal liberalism being exposed in a kind of ‘aren’t WE important?’ glimpse. To me, that is its sole value.

Of SCOTUS and justices, just what religious affiliations they had was given little air until the first Jew, Louis Brandeis, was elevated to the court. WASPs as the powers-that-be have rarely liked Jews in any authority capacity. Catholics didn’t seem to bother them so much – there have been Catholics on the Court since 1836. Now, any abiding Christian is going to get the liberal-litmus vetting worse than any other religious ‘concern’ that has been exposed prior.

I think Rosie should be left on and un-gagged to remind any watcher to be discerning of her (or his) own personal take on current events. And, frankly, my dear, ‘overbearing obnoxious women everywhere’ already have ‘a bad name.’ Born of mutually over-bearing and frankly obnoxious parents, I don’t much like such bloviating arrogators in either sex.

    Remember, I love you, too

What if there were five fundamnetalist judges or 5 jewish judges, would she then criticise them for their faith.  I thought Rosie had some faith or believed in a higher being, I guess I am wrong.  This is one more area where the secular is becoming stronger.  We as Catholics need to speak out when our faith is ridiculed.  The Catholic church of today is not the Catholic church of our parents. They relied on the church to fight the battles.  That is not what Jesus said or what the bible tells us to do.  We are to proclaim the truth to all, we are not to sit back and allow the devil or secular society to dictate things.

Maybe somebody ought to hand Rosie a copy of that gem of "Catholic" political thought, the U.S. House Democrat's "Statement of Principles" released in February 2006 and signed by (among others) pro-aborts like Nancy Pelosi and the Sanchez sisters (100% NARAL approval ratings for Nancy and all the female signatories). In it they say "we are committed to making real the basic principles that are at the heart of Catholic social teaching," and "in all these issues we seek the Church's guidance and assistance…," and this "separation" gem: "as Catholic Democrats who embrace the vocation and mission of the laity as expressed by Pope John Paul II…"  OK. Rosie, let 'em have it!!! (I'm not holding my breath.)
