The View’s Catholic Obsession Continues

On ABC's The View today, Barbara Walters, Joy Behar, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and guest co-host Whoopi Goldberg criticized the actions of a Catholic priest in Wisconsin. Having learned that his organist/choir director was selling sex toys, the pastor advised the woman that the products she peddled were incompatible with Catholic teaching. When she refused to quit her sales job, the priest removed her from her position.

During the discussion, Behar said, "She is selling [the sex toys] to married couples, which the Catholic Church wants you to procreate. How do they think we have been doing it all these years? With sex toys, that's how." Goldberg asserted that the woman now "can't get a spiritual advisor" because she has "a different way of doing things." Walters reinforced Goldberg's notion by asking, "Why can't someone who is a hooker at night…on Sunday go to whatever church or temple and try to get spiritual?" Hasselbeck questioned the merit of "probing into your private life in terms of how well you can do your job or keep your job."

Catholic League president Bill Donohue commented on the episode today:

"Here we go again. This is the fifteenth incident since September where The View has revealed its overwhelming obsession with all things Catholic. The panelists' disregard for the truth is bad enough — for instance, there is no report of the woman being denied spiritual advice, or even the sacraments, because of the nature of her job — but what is especially appalling is the co-hosts' intrusion into the internal matters of the Church. Clergy of all religions make judgments about the moral propriety of their employees every day, without attracting any attention. Yet when a Catholic priest does it, the ladies of The View launch into a sophomoric rant questioning his right to run his parish as he sees fit.

"It has only been a matter of days since The View's leading bigot, Rosie O'Donnell, left the show. Yet the assault goes on. The co-hosts will use any excuse to rip into the Church, even if they have to play fast and loose with the facts to do so. Thus we see that the true culprit isn't Rosie, it is co-owner and co-producer Barbara Walters. She's the captain of this anti-Catholic ship."

Oh, so Joy Behar thinks that sex toys are the answer to procreation?  Maybe that's why I haven't been able to get pregnant!  Seriously, I'm sure that this woman wasn't selling sex toys just to married people, and even if she were, these products have the potential to degrade the marital act.  It's not like the priest hired an investigator to pry into her private life;  her sales job became known to him, and it is inappropriate for a ministry leader to have an immoral side job.

With four children and never having so much as touched a 'sex toy' I can safely say that procreation has nothing to do with 'toys'.  Nor are they necessary for a rich and fulfilling marriage.

BTW the company she was working for advertises itself as " the perfect opportunity to get together with your girlfriends for any occasion. bachelorette parties, "suddenly single" parties, office parties, or just because".  I can understand why the image presented would be considered inappropriate. (I didn't check on the items for sale as there was a over 18 warning.

So "Baba" et al. are anti-Catholic: so what?  If you object, don't watch!  That's what the channel-changer is for!

Yes, okay, you're right: they are holding up Christianity and praticularly Catholicism to ridicule.  In one sense, that's not very civil.  In another sense, I always wonder why Christians moan and groan over such treatment: didn't Christ tell us to expect persecution?  Didn't He say to REJOICE in it?

In a doggedly secular culture, in a defensively death-oriented culture, why are we "surprised" that people hate us?  The world is not–repeat, NOT–a "warm, fuzzy" place for Christians.  I think we're not being realistic if we expect it to be.

I have no problem with persecution and have experienced it before. Psalm 91 is also my favorite and the Lord tells me it's not wise to lay down for hypocrites like Barbara Walters.

"Here's the video highlights for heavyweight champion Randy Couture's charity benefit to raise money for injured U.S. servicemen. Please give what you can as Bush doesn't deserve these brave men's sacrifice: http://video.nbcsports.com/player/?id=114583

Its not the fact that we are being persecuted. It is the fact that many many people watch this show, and the stuff they say enters the mind and can easily warp there way of thinking if not grounded in Church teaching. For example, They may not understand the main purpose of sex is for procreation. They may think of sex as mainly for our enjoyment. So these toys can help in that enjoyment. So what is wrong with that. See what I mean? They have not had the understanding about Church teaching. So we end up with alot of weak uniformed Catholics thinking and living like the world because of there ignorance of scripture and Catholic teaching.

    Hey, Zephyr424,

I guess the President has to deal with your persecution of him!  God bless our prolife President as he leads the country in fighting terrorism in spite of ridicule and persecution.  Thank God John Kerry isn't running the country.
