The Second Day of Christmas!

Luke 2:22-24

And when the time came for their purification according to the law of Moses, they brought Him up to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord (as it is written in the law of the Lord, "Every male that opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord") and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the law of the Lord, "a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons."

"Two turtledoves" is a Christmas gift as old as Christmas.  It was the gift the Holy Family offered in sacrifice when the day came for Jesus's circumcision.  It was the sacrifice of the poor.  The Holy Family could not offer much monetarily.  But they offered themselves in their sacrifice.  And most difficult of all, they offered their Son.

    Not trying to be heretical, but I always wondered what happened to all the "gold, incense and mhyrr"?

    Listed on jbay? Or, maybe sold through Abraham’s List?

    I am certain that the gold was converted to necessary items – tools and lumber for the carpentry shop, etc. And, some of it surely was expended in Egypt, when they fled Herod’s dirty work among the Holy Innocents.

    The incense they may have made a gift to the Temple.

    The myhrr – which my the way has the bitterness from which the name Miriam – Mary – derives – could be given in consolation to those who recently had dead beloved, but couldn’t afford such expensive burial spices.

    Remember, I love you, too .
