I think confirmation is done too casually and at too young an age. My confirmation in 10th grade was done in a packed convention center in three languages, and I really didn’t do anything with it. It wasn’t until years later that I really began to reflect on it.

In some ways, I agree with you, Dave. However, I don’t want my children denied Confirmation because they haven’t reached some arbitrary age. That’s what’s going on in my parish. They must be at least 15 years old. What if my 12 year old truly is ready? She is denied the graces, but a 15 year old who goes through the motions of the classes is welcomed. So yes, it is done too casually, but not necessarily at too young an age.
