Jesus Trashed in Anti-Huckabee Skit Aired on Utah NPR Station

On January 7, an anti-Huckabee skit trashed Jesus on a radio show, "Fair Game with Faith Salie." It aired on KCPW, Utah's National Public Radio station. Here is a transcript of the offensive segment:

[Woman's voice]: And now another Huckabee family recipe leaked by his opponents.

[Male Voice]: Tired of bland unsatisfying Eucharists? Try this Huckabee family favorite.  Deep-Fried Body of Christ–boring holy wafers no more. Take one Eucharist.  Preferably post transubstantiation. Deep-fry in fat, not vegetable oil, ladies, until crispy. Serve piping hot. Mike likes to top his Christ with whipped cream and sprinkles. But his wife Janet and the boys like theirs with heavy gravy and cream puffs. It goes great with red wine.

[Woman's voice]: Now that is just ridiculous. Everyone knows evangelicals don't believe in transubstantiation.

Catholic League president Bill Donohue responded as follows:

"We are lodging a complaint with Ed Sweeney, KCPW's general manager. This kind of programming would be over-the-top on a shock-jock station, never mind a station funded by the taxpayers. We would also like to know who was behind this assault on Jesus. Therefore, we are asking for an investigation. Whoever it was, he or she used presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee and evangelicals as foil, saving the real sucker punch for Roman Catholics. This is despicable on several counts: it is blasphemous and bigoted. But it may also be motivated by a political calculus, making it really dirty if it is."

That is extremely bigoted. Thanks for standing up.

"The stock footage and audio of the Iranian gunboats buzzing that U.S. warship in the Strait of Hormuz is some of the most amateurish and phony propaganda I've ever seen. I actually laughed out loud when I first heard it. The zionists and neo-cons think Americans are too stupid to figure out Israel is pushing for another war for our young men to die in. Oil will hit $200 a barrel and gas will go to $5 a gallon. I say to Israel, YOU attack Iran if that's what your foreign policy demands."

I don't know what that has to do with this article, but you're absolutely right.  The Iraelis are way too extreme, and it's not our battle to fight.

I totally agree with Bill Donohue that this was more of a bigoted attack on Catholicism than on Huckabee.  This NPR station would have never blatantly targeted other groups (such as blacks) in this way.

I’m not sure what Zephyr’s second paragraph has to do with the article, but it’s patently silly when you consider that “Rhetoric has continued to fly regarding the Jan. 6 Iranian-U.S. naval confrontation, with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps now having released a video of its own to bolster its argument about how the incident played out. Of greatest significance, however, is the line Washington has drawn in the sand as a result of the incident. [empahsis mine]

Back to point, however, it is great that there is a group like the Catholic League who not only monitors the media but calls them to task for offenses that would not go unpunished if they were perpetrated against another “protected” group.

Curiously, if you link to the above via Google, you can see the full treatment v. having to subscribe for access.

About the NPR show- I am shocked and hurt… and I feel almost silly for being shocked. This is NPR! Any chance they could lose their government funding?

Claire, who cares what NPR would do? They can hardly stay on the air for lack of an audience.

As forthe Strait of Hormuz incident, there was a normal encounter, but the incident itself has been fabricated. It's clear as day.

Fabricated, no doubt, by Mossad in cahoots with the CIA who (as we all know) fronts for the CFR/Illumnati in matters where these secret societies interests in the NWO can be forwarded by the U.S.’s projection of power in volatile areas.

But Iran, with no propoganda interests and friend to true Christians, should be believed without reservation…..[SIGH]…..

I recall performing similar operations as a Naval Aviator and I suspect that “normal” from the point of view of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard can be very clearly (and properly) interpreted as “harassment” or even “provocative” from the point of view of a destroyer – especially in light of what happened to the USS Cole. I guess we’ll see when the full video from one side or the other is eventually leaked or declassified.

Speedboats routinely threaten to blow up warships in "two minutes".  The joke is on you.

I’d much rather the joke be on me than tragedy hit the Hooper or other ship. Perhaps it is funny to you, but having lived through Iranian, Iraqi, Lybian, and Bosnian “normal encounters” I tend to give more credance to the U.S. version. You’ll need more proof than Iranian agitprop to convice most reasonable people otherwise.

NPR – you can still find it on the far left of your radio dial!

UPDATE: Catholic League has issued the following update on this story:

An official from Public Radio International, the parent organization that carries “Fair Game with Faith Salie,” called to say that the offensive skit has been pulled from its website and an on-air apology has been given.

We are satisfied with this outcome—it effectively ends this issue.

That's great news, Mary.  Thanks for the update.

Zephyr, I'm happy that NPR doesn't have much of an audience, but yes, I still care that they targeted Catholics in a way that they would never target other groups such as blacks or Jews.  Apparently Bill Donohue cares, too, which is why he made his statement.

Typical NPR fare- attack Catholics and then give an on-air apology but only when pressure is applied.

Without Bill Donohue they would get away with it every time.

How many of the usual CE comment people expressed their outrage to NPR?

We are wimps of the highest order.

WE CAN AND MUST NOT LET THEM OR ANYONE ELSE GET AWAY WITH IT.

Is NPR behind this story of speedboats? Or is Huckabee or Romney behind the NPR story?

With all due respect, better editing is in order.

    God loves you .

john m – I have no idea how to get hold of the “NPR” folk – I never listen to them – don’t watch ANY TV let alone “public” – and, besides, they only preach to their ever-shrinking choir, from what I understand.

Another CE commentator sent me here about just WHO we should be keeping our powder dry over. I must admit, the older I get, the more powder it seems I should have on hand to keep dry. Candidates for ‘Second Amendment impeachment’ proliferate! And, I don’t intend to be a docile martyr.

To tell more truth, Iran would have been suing for peace from ME starting in February, 1981. That frankly would have obviated every thought by Saddam H. about getting too frisky in Iraq and over Kuwait; caused Syria’s low-life leaders to re-consider trying to annex Lebanon; made Saudi Arabia aware of just who they not only should get close to, but better listen to; North Korea would all along ‘talk for food’ and not chanced any defensive actions on our part; made any number of other hegemons just ‘pleased to hold free elections’ sooner and cleaner; etc., etc., etc. This might have caused the Pope to blanch, but frankly I have enough history in me to know to preempt every little Hitler out there.

Have you noticed, historically, the Popes have not been all the competent at forestalling war, to begin with? When in the Crusades they fomented war, they had so bibble-de-babbled over Muslim aggression and forced conversions of Christians, it was just too late. The Vatican may have ‘just war’ thoughts, but have little strategic or tactical competence about hostilities. I can think that a lot of our current problem with the Islamic terror war comes out of less-than-success by the likes of Jesuits and other missionaries in just getting tolerance, let alone converts, from Muslim.

I have this feeling that I could go on and on to the point of ‘book’ let alone ‘blog’, but I have written much of this before. I may just be God’s waterboy, but I still feel a warrior’s blood about those who would act like enemies.

SOMEHOW, we always end up involved pulling someone else’s chestnuts out of the fire. Let’s put the bad guys’ chestnuts in, and roast them good and proper. And, of those who would question whether I would have my daughter fight – if she heard I was finally ‘up-to-here’ and sporting for the fight, she’d ask me to get her guns and whether I’d accept a woman’s battalion. No, I don’t think that the Pope would like the glint in either of our eyes.

Remember, I love you, too .

Toward our holy and prosperous New Year in Christ,

    Pristinus Sapienter
