Communist Party Cheers Nuns on the Bus

People’s World is the flagship publication of Communist Party USA. It’s the kind of publication whose endorsement you wouldn’t want, especially as a Catholic. To the contrary, when communists are cheering you on … well, you might want to rethink your position.

To that end, People’s World ran a glowing profile of Sister Simone Campbell and her “Network.” Campbell and her sisters have formed the “Nuns on the Bus,” storming the nation on behalf of “social justice,” which, in effect, frequently conforms to the agenda of Barack Obama and the Democratic Party. The nuns have crusaded for Obama-care, in direct defiance of the bishops.

“From our reading of the bill,” assured Sister Campbell, urging passing of Obama-care, “there isn’t any federal funding of abortion.” Quite the contrary, Campbell and her sisters judged the bill not anti-life but pro-life.

But while the bishops and faithful Catholics were aghast at the sisters’ actions, not everyone was against them. Among those thrilled is a group of strange bedfellows, one that spent the last century persecuting the Catholic Church, placing nuns in the gulag, and even killing priests and bishops—namely, communists. When it comes to Sister Campbell and her Nuns on the Bus, communists are on board. They have suddenly gotten religion. Go, nuns, go!

The article in People’s World was less a news article than an ad for Network. The People’s World correspondent urged its communist readers to follow Sister Campbell’s instructions in texting the word “nuns” to senators. Aside a warm photo of Campbell and her sisters, the flagship publication of the Communist Party provided links to Network’s website and the Nuns on the Bus tour. The CPUSA publication hoped the nuns would “make thousands of friends.”

Indeed, your friends say a lot about you. I don’t know about you, but if I ran a Catholic organization encouraged by Communist Party USA and Barack Obama but in direct opposition to my bishops and Church on certain core Catholic teachings, including matters of literal life and death, I’d be concerned.

Are you flippin’ kidding me? I wish I could say I was surprised, but these “nuns” who dress in tacky women’s wear and act like anything but real sisters have been barreling down this track for years. But for the (pardon me while I barf) commies to start raising a ruckus about how wonderful this woman is really stripping off the sheepskin to reveal the wolf underneath. Get back on the bus, woman! And don’t stop until you get to Cuba!

Why should we be surprised by the rationale of these (socialist) Sisters when they have had the benefit of recent great minds of moral judgment like Fr. Pfleger, Ted Kennedy, Nancy Pelosi, Kathleen Sibelius, Joe Biden, and John Kerry to help shape their convictions? You and I have known some wonderful saintly women in black and white or gray or brown we’d give our lives for who gave theirs to the service of Christ’s children and the sick and poor. These (commonly dressed women) are not the “Nuns on the Bus” these are the “Nuns on the Abyss”!

Why haven’t our bishops long since excommunicated these ‘sisters’ along with so-called ‘Catholic’ politicians who claim religious cover while voting for abortion and other practices contrary to the Catholic Faith? So far as I know, Kathleen Sibelius is the only one whose Catholic label has been lifted by her bishop while she was governor of Kansas.

The bishops are too busy campaigning for amnesty to care about things like this.

It’s deja vu all over again, noisy “social justice” (i.e redistributionist) nuns, silent bishops. No wonder the sheep stray; the shepherds are asleep.

Can’t we just get along, and forget about the Catholic Church and our Lord, who by the way only gave His life for us? People are really running the rails and going over the cliff just for what ever they decide is good for them. Hell bent to take all us with! Pray, God save us sinners.

    Our Lady of Fatima anyone??

That is the problem Lee. Create a ‘god’ other then the True God, simply by placing ones drive in what ever pleases and “feels Good” rather then in the faith we were given at the beginning by our Lord. Idolatry is was it is, hidden behind a “Catholic” name. Our Lord Himself said: “For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open.” Luke 8:17 Its rendering unto Caesar that which is God’s. Bad move.

Agree! It’s a form of idolatry just like “liberation theology”. Meanwhile Bishop Cautious Coward in the Chancery and Father Fluffy Feel Good in the Parish are worried about maintaining the institutional church.

Just goes to show you that some so-called “nuns” can be some of the stupidest people on earth!

It is so so sad. We pray for these sisters to return to total obedience to Rome.

It’s really a shame that these “sisters” have corrupted what ought to be a beautiful female vocation, all in the name of personal fulfillment and women’s liberation. What they have done and are doing is the antithesis of selfless service as Jesus taught. Their actions are denigrating faithful orders of women religious who embrace the Church’s teachings. The values and beliefs these rebellious sisters promote are not just anti-life, but they feed the anti-Catholic climate so prevalent in our society. Why this “crusade” continues, pretty much unopposed by clergy who ought to be speaking up, is confusing and sad. It appears that the Church hierarchy believes the sisters to be an aberration who won’t make much difference on their little jaunt around the country. How wrong they are.

The first act of disobedience was taking off their habit! If you can’t obey civil law you’ll never obey God’s law. We fellow Catholics do it to ourselves. If we don’t have that personal relationship with Christ, the beginnings of formation, we enter into the world in the same damaging way. People want authenticity. Why can’t the church come out and say these sisters are not allowed to have communion?

And how horribly ironic, today is the feast day of St. Maximilian Kolbe. I know he was martyred by the Nazis, not the Soviets, but other than language and location, is there really much difference between a concentration camp and a gulag?

I’d have said Siberia. You actually can drive there if the Bering Strait freezes over.

Dr. Paul you need to get a radio talk show and put Michael Savage out of business. Many Catholics like my husband listen to Michael Savage because they want to get fired up about something. Why not fire people up and point them in a more positive direction…the hope of life everlasting. Your articles bring out the best and worst in me. Keep it up and think about radio! It’s the right time to let you out of the box. 🙂

It is time for these “nuns” to either shape up or ship out! They have no business defying the position of the Church, nor the policy positions of the Catholic Bishops. After they went through the Convent and became Nuns, did they not take vows of obedience?

Is anyone sufficiently horrified yet how the name Catholic is being abused?
