Catholic Answers’ Jimmy Akin: "Time To Cut Through the Confusion About Pope Francis"

SAN DIEGO — From the moment of Pope Francis’s election, the media have been misrepresenting his words and actions. It’s gotten to the point that even faithful Catholics have begun to wonder what is true and what is false.

Some hope that Pope Francis will reverse the Church’s teaching on abortion, contraception, divorce, homosexuality, and women in the priesthood. He has been portrayed as the progressive antidote to his hard-line predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI.

Jimmy Akin, a writer and speaker for the San Diego-based ministry Catholic Answers, could not disagree more with the media’s version of the new pope. “Anyone who has kept up with what Pope Francis has said and done so far will realize that we have a much more interesting pope on our hands than the caricature given to us by CNBC and Fox News,” Akin said.

Akin has been a student not only of the Holy Father’s first year in office but also of his career in Argentina. “Pope Francis’s call to bring the Faith to the world, to meet people where they are, and to bring them to Christ is a message he has been delivering for his entire priesthood,” said Akin.

“People will be startled when they understand what Pope Francis is actually doing and just how badly the media has twisted the story to suit its own agenda,” he explained. “I look forward to cutting through the lies and distortions at this year’s conference.”

    I seriously hope these talks will eventually be made available for those of us for whom attending conventions is completely impossible.

    What a load of nonsense. Pope Francis is pushing hard the leftist agenda from telling us not to judge mortal sins and to not obsess about the mass murder of babies in the womb. He has shut down the Traditional Franciscan Latin Mass community and just brought back to good standing a pro-abortion Irish Priest.
    Francis is the Pope – end of story. He will lead as he sees fit but it’s just embarrassing when conservatives pretend Francis is not liberalizing Church practice and tone.
    Wait till the fall when NO doctrines will change at the synod but the way the church deals with divorce and contraception will be so change in tone and practice that the official doctrine of the Church will have no meaning at all.
    The liberals now own the Church…..deal with it.

    Mr. Akin, I’m sure you will cut through the lies and distortions at your conference.
    But Pope Francis has given a TON of ammunition to the NY Times, LA Times, and the countless liberal outlets in the world.
    So you will cut through the nonsense for the hundreds of people at your conference and the liberal media through out the world will present the Popes message of mocking tradition and not obsessing about moral issues to the hundreds of millions.
    Hey, the lesbians who just had their child baptized in the Cathedral in Argentina even though they said the do not practice the faith know what’s going on
    The Catholic schools through out America that explode the second sodomy is not promoted all used Francis and his words to promote their pro-sodomy position.
    The list is endless. Francis have given the liberals all they need to distort the Churches teaching.

    Here’s an idea – maybe Pope Franky can stop spreading confusion.

    When will we ever hear this socialist pope say something like this:

    “If a person is wealthy and seeks God and has good will, who am I to judge him?”
