Thank you to all who have offered prayers for my grandmother. Grandma Pattie died peacefully in her sleep last night, surrounded by family. I will be leaving town tomorrow to fly to the Midwest for her funeral Mass and will likely be away from the blog until Monday. Please join me in praying for the repose of my Grandmother's soul and for all those who have lost loved ones recently.

I'm so sorry to hear about your grandmother, Lisa. As each generation passes, the actual loss is sometimes compounded by the dreaded realization that we are now the ones left alone to pass on the real family treasures … the rich spiritual tapestry of insight and memory that must be shared or forever forgotten. And yet, it is also these familial milestones — even these somber ones — that provide the "teaching moments" to do just that. May the Lord give you words fitly spoken "like apples of gold in settings of silver" (Proverbs 25:11).
